Elementary Election
I work at a brand new school, and up until yesterday, we did not have a school mascot. The principal thought since it was an election year that the kiddos should vote for the school colors and mascot. Sounds like a great idea, right? Well, it has just been mayhem during the past few weeks. The classes each sent in a nomination and the student council narrowed it down and divided into campaigning parties: the hawks, the moose and the cougars. The campaign started off with "Hawks Rock" signs posted up all over the school. The kids all wanted to vote for hawks. Next, the moose come in with "Moose are Cool" posters and make a cute little display with stuffed moose, etc. Now, all the kids wanted to vote for moose. Well, what about the cougars? The teacher who was supposed to help the kids with their campaigning had to have surgery so the PTA steps in to help them. HOLY BUCKETS! Overnight our school was transformed into what looked like BYU threw up all over it. There were paw prints and cougar signs everywhere with "Cougar Attack" and to top it all off, we had a large taxadermied (is that a word?) cougar in the front area of the school. They didn't stop there. They were giving out balloons, candy and cougar cupcakes. Guess who won? We are now the Mountainside Cougars. I really wanted the moose! In fact, if the teachers got to choose, we would have been the moose. I'm not so sure I love Democracy right now. Especially since our colors are now Teal and Gold. Do those even match? Oh, well.

Seriously, your school is so much cooler now. Don't you know that Cougars always rule? You'll be much happier once you come to that realization. :)
Scary how democracy works out sometimes...and I'm not just talking about elementary school elections!
Read about this in the paper this morning. Laughed. You know the cougars, teal and gold. lol.
